Ramp Closure Ahead: NB Santa Fe to SB I-25

March 9, 2016 - Denver Metro/CDOT Region 1 - DENVER – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is closing the ramp from northbound Santa Fe Drive (U.S. 85) to southbound Interstate 25 this weekend to as part of the I-25/Santa Fe Drive Interchange Reconstruction Project.

Beginning on Sunday morning, March 13, drivers wanting to access southbound I-25 from northbound Santa Fe will need to continue north on Santa Fe to Alameda Avenue, then east on Alameda to Broadway, and then south on Broadway to I-25.  Motorists should expect delays when driving through this area, especially during the morning and evening commute hours.

The ramp closure is scheduled to remain in place for a couple of months, reopening to traffic in mid-May.  Closing the ramp will allow a new storm sewer line and curb and gutters to be installed.  The grade of the ramp also will be increased.

OTHER AREA CLOSURES

  • Eastbound and westbound Alameda on the bridge over I-25: Left lane closed from Friday, March 11, at 9 p.m. until Monday, March 14, at 5 a.m. for median removal.
  • Northbound Santa Fe from Mississippi Avenue to the northbound I-25 flyover ramp: Left lane closed from Friday, March 11, at 9 p.m. until Monday, March 14, at 5 a.m.  Closure needed to prepare site for the next phase of construction.

Background

This $24 million project began in June 2014 and is scheduled for completion in winter 2016/2017. Phases 1.2 and 1.3 were combined as a bridge replacement project, replacing the I-25 structures over Santa Fe Drive. That project is complete.

The current phase focuses primarily on Santa Fe, Alameda Avenue and southbound Kalamath Street. It includes the new bridge over the South Platte River that carries southbound I-25 off-ramp traffic onto southbound Santa Fe Drive. In addition, work includes widening Alameda Avenue at the Santa Fe Drive/Kalamath Street intersections.

This project will improve safety for the traveling public, help reduce congestion and improve traffic flow in this heavily traveled section of the metro area.
