September 20, 2016 - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - Work Will Temporarily Suspend RTD’s B Line Service for the Weekend of Sept. 23-25

DENVER – Overnight full closures of Federal Boulevard between 67th and 70th Avenues are required for the placement of new girders on the eastern lanes of the Federal Boulevard bridge over the BNSF Railway and the Regional Transportation District (RTD) B Line. This closure will impact motorists, bicyclists, pedestrians and public transit users, detailed below.

Full Closure Dates
-       Friday, Sept. 23, 9:00 pm – Saturday, Sept. 24, 9:00 am

-       Saturday, Sept. 24, 7:00 pm – Sunday Sept. 25, 9:00 am

-       Sunday, Sept. 25, 6:00 pm – Monday Sept. 26 5:00 am

Pedestrians and bicyclists will be provided an escort through the work zone. Alternate routes are advised and delays should be expected for all users of the roadway.

RTD Impacts

During the closure, service on the RTD B Line from Denver Union Station to Westminster will be unavailable and the RTD B Line service will be replaced by shuttle buses. Additionally, as a result of the road closure, RTD Bus Route 31 will be impacted and detours will be in effect.

B Line Service will be unavailable all day Saturday, Sept. 24 and all day Sunday, Sept. 25. A bus shuttle will take the place of commuter rail service.

-  B Line bus shuttles will board near Wewatta and 17th Street at Denver Union Station, and at Gate A at Westminster Station.

- Bus Route 31 will detour passengers from 67th Avenue to board at 65th Avenue during the closure.

- Passengers that wish to continue to US36 & Sheridan Station are directed to board at the Westminster Station.

- Passengers continuing northbound to Front Range Community College are directed to board on Federal Blvd at 72nd Ave.

- Passengers continuing southbound are directed to board in the Westminster Station.

Passengers affected by the closure can expect delays and detours and should allow extra travel time to arrive at their destination. Rider alerts will be posted at all impacted stations, and RTD ambassadors will be on-site to help direct passengers. For more detailed detour information or to sign up to receive email notifications for a specific route, please visit the RTD website at http://www3.rtd-denver.com/elbert/RiderAlerts/index.cfm.

Motorist Detour Routes
Northbound Federal Boulevard traffic will take eastbound 64th Avenue to northbound Pecos Street to westbound 72nd Avenue to rejoin northbound Federal Boulevard.

Southbound Federal Boulevard traffic will use eastbound 72nd Avenue to southbound Pecos Street to westbound 64th Avenue to rejoin southbound Federal Boulevard.

The Federal Boulevard & 69th Bridge Replacement over BNSF & RTD Railroad will replace the existing structurally deficient and functionally obsolete bridge and reconstruct one half mile of roadway from W 67th Avenue to W 70th Avenue. Extensive earthwork and retaining walls are required at the bridge approaches.

Completion of this project will result in a wider bridge, eliminating the existing pinch point and allowing for two additional through lanes over the bridge. ADA curb ramps will be added for handicap access and new wider sidewalks on each side of Federal Boulevard will improve pedestrian safety and mobility. Raised medians will be added to separate traffic and aesthetic enhancements will include a raised median planter with the Westminster city logo and future sculptures. Further benefits include added lighting for Federal Blvd. and Little Dry Creek pedestrian trail, as well as a new signal at 69th Ave to access the RTD Eagle-P3 commuter rail boarding station.

The City of Westminster has been an important partner in the planning and development of this project, which is scheduled for completion in mid 2017.  CDOT and the contractor team, lead by Hamon Infrastructure, would like to remind motorists to Slow for the Cone Zone. Fines will be doubled within the work zone.
