TRAVEL ADVISORY: Crews push ahead to get CO 133 open this afternoon

October 21, 2016 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - GUNNISON COUNTY/PAONIA-CDOT crews working alongside Yenter Companies, Inc. performed asphalt patching to the damaged sections of CO 133 to get the highway opened today around 3:00 p.m.

Rock scalers from Yenter and the CDOT Geohazards team continued scaling this morning and once that work was complete the remainder of debris on the highway was hauled off and crews patched the damaged section at the north end of Paonia Reservoir at mile point 29.5.  Yenter will continue work next week with ditch clean-up in the area and a more permanent asphalt patch. The initial incident occurred Wednesday morning around 8:15 a.m. and no vehicles were involved in the incident.

CO 133, in this area, is used by over 1,100 vehicles per day, of which 6.3 percent are trucks. Identified detour routes utilizing I-70 to the north and US 50 to the south, have been implemented.   The detours can add up to approximately 3 additional hours of travel.
