Northbound I-25 off-ramp to Colorado Boulevard closed Thursday night

November 8, 2016 - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - The northbound Interstate 25 off-ramp to Colorado Boulevard (exit 204) will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 10 p.m. until Friday, Nov. 11 at 5 a.m. so crews can remove an existing median island.

Northbound Colorado Boulevard will also be reduced to three through lanes near the I-25 interchange overnight.

During the closure, ramp traffic will be directed to exit at Evans Avenue (exit 203). A weekend closure of this same ramp will be announced at a later date. During the planned weekend shut-down, crews will place new concrete for a new third direct right-turn lane from the northbound I-25 off-ramp to northbound Colorado Boulevard.

All work is weather-dependent and the schedule is subject to change.

BACKGROUND

The Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor partner, Technology Constructors Inc., will install traffic signal improvements over the winter at four locations throughout the Denver metropolitan area. The most extensive work will occur on the northbound I-25 off-ramp at Colorado Boulevard.

The project will add a third direct right-turn lane from the northbound I-25 off-ramp to northbound Colorado Boulevard. A concrete median island, curb ramps, overhead lighting, signal heads and other signal equipment will be replaced as part of this project. Most of the work will be performed overnight, behind barrier wall during the day or over the weekend to minimize traffic impacts associated with lane closures.

This project will also make signal infrastructure improvements to enable advanced vehicle detection at three locations: CO 83 and Bayou Gulch Road in Douglas County; US 85 and CO 67 in Douglas County; and US 40 and Tower Road in the City of Aurora. Detection systems identify vehicles approaching a traffic signal, which is then used for traffic management to adjust signal timing to meet demand.

The total construction cost of all four locations is approximately $400,000.
