CDOT Begins Construction on CO 145

March 30, 2017 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - Work will Replace Culverts and Rebuild Cribwall

SAN MIGUEL COUNTY - The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and Myers & Sons Construction will start work on Monday, April 3, along Colorado Highway (CO) 145 from mile point (MP) 75.71 to MP 78.5.

The project will primarily consist of replacing three main culverts crossing the highway and building a new cribwall (or retaining wall) on the downslope side to stabilize the pavement.  The older existing wall was compromised in recent mudslides that crossed CO 145.  The work will take place approximately 5 miles north of Telluride in the area known as Deep Creek.

TRAVEL IMPACTS: Daytime work hours range from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. MondayFriday. Motorists will encounter a portable light signal and/or flaggers controlling traffic flow throughout the duration of the project. Traffic may also be reduced to a single lane, alternating traffic intermittently in either direction. These closures may be up to two miles in length, with 15 minute delays possible through the work zone. The speed limit will be reduced to 40 mph at the start of the project and may be dropped to 30 mph through the work zone. Traffic fines in the construction zone may be doubled. The project is expected to last approximately four months until the end of July.

Travelers are urged to:

  • Slow down and pay attention to the construction traffic signal lights or flagger personnel.

  • Follow work zone signage – Use caution and consider worker safety when traveling through a work zone.
