The project began in August 2016. Construction on US 24 includes several blocks in downtown Buena Vista, and is designed to enhance safety and reduce flooding along the business corridor. Other benefits include:

  • easier access to businesses along US 24;
  • upgrades to pedestrian crosswalks and sidewalks along Main Street; and
  • the addition of left- and right-turn pockets at Main Street and US 24.

New curb ramps and dedicated driveways will be installed, along with street light upgrades and relocation, asphalt resurfacing, and electronic intersection signalization for emergency vehicles.

"The open house is a unique opportunity for the public to connect with the construction management team," said CDOT Resident Engineer Arthur Miller. "The event is also designed to inform the local residents and businessowners about what to expect as this project enters spring construction season and its final phase."

A&S Construction of Cañon City, is the contractor of the $5.6 million project, supported in part by a RAMP access grant of $2 million from CDOT.
