March 31, 2017 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - Several traffic impacts begin next week to kickoff Spring construction season

GLENWOOD SPRINGS –  The Colorado Department of Transportation announces that the spring construction season has begun, and traffic impacts are ramping up on the Grand Avenue Bridge project. Beginning in April, motorists will see an increase in traffic impacts associated with the GAB project.

“Crews are working throughout town. Eighth Street and Ninth Street downtown intersection work will begin and road improvement work begins at both I-70 interchanges in Glenwood Spring,” explains Tom Newland, Project Public Information Manager.

Intersection Work on Grand Avenue (map attached)

Beginning Tuesday, Apr. 4 through Thursday, Apr. 13, expect intersection closures in downtown Glenwood Springs. Business and pedestrian access will be maintained during these closures; pedestrian access will be detoured when necessary.

  • 4/4 and 4/5 – Eighth Street between Cooper and Grand avenues will be closed.
  • 4/6 and 4/7 – Eighth Street between Colorado and Grand avenues will be closed.
  • 4/10 and 4/11 – Ninth Street between Cooper and Grand avenues will be closed.
  • 4/12 and 4/13 – Ninth Street between Colorado and Grand avenues will be closed.

These closures are to allow GAB crews to install upgraded traffic signal technology along the CO-82 corridor. This newer technology increases traffic efficiency by sensing vehicles on the roadway, allowing for a real-time response for signal changes.

I-70 Exit 116 Eastbound On-Ramp Closures M-F, 6-9 a.m.

Beginning Tuesday, Apr. 4, the I-70 Exit 116 eastbound on-ramp will be closed from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., Monday through Friday. Motorists are advised to use westbound I-70 to Exit 114 and access the eastbound on-ramp at the interchange. The approximately two-month closure is for GAB crews to work on making intersection improvements.

I-70 Exit 114 Roundabout Work Resumes
The I-70 Exit 114 south roundabout work will resume the first week of April through June of this year. Improvements to the south roundabout include: expanding the compacity around the south roundabout by widening the turn area, restriping and installing new curb.

I-70 Exit 114 Eastbound Off-Ramp Reduced to One-lane
The I-70 Exit 114 eastbound off-ramp will be reduced to one-lane as crews work on improvements to the interchange.

Morning delays at the I-70 Exit 114 interchange are anticipated.

During peak morning hours (7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.), anticipate delays at the I-70 Exit 114 interchange. Commuters are advised to use I-70 Exit 116 or shift their schedules when possible.
