CDOT completes I-70 Beavertail Tunnel lighting project

October 12, 2017 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - Mesa County- The Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor Sturgeon Electric are pleased to announce the completion of the I-70 Beavertail Tunnel lighting project. 

The $5 million project started at the end of April, and was completed 5 weeks ahead of schedule.  

CDOT and Sturgeon Electric removed 426 lights and installed 418 luminaire (LED) lights, installed struts and fiber glass piping, performed structural coating and repairs on the tunnel, bridge joint repairs, HMA (hot mix asphalt) overlay on the service road, and detour patching.

The updated LED lighting will use less power and will provide better visibility through the tunnel for motorists.
