Winter Driving is Around the Corner - What Should You Know?

Knock, Knock….Hear that? Sounds like winter is coming. Are you ready? Colorado Department of Transportation is gearing up for whatever Old Man Winter and Mother Nature decide to throw at southern Colorado this season. We want you to know all the tools CDOT has in their arsenal to combat winter roads, as well as what you can do to help keep Colorado roads safe.

WHAT: 195 pieces of snow removal equipment, 221 highly skilled professionals, liquid deicer, brine, sand, salt and a whole lotta know how will be used to protect the 7,682 lane miles of the 14 counties in southeastern Colorado this winter.The Colorado Department of Transportation wants to ensure the utmost safety for drivers on the road. The main goal for CDOT is to make sure drivers on the road are as prepared as possible for winter driving. We want you to know what we are using to clear and protect our roadways this winter. Come take a look!

WHEN: Wednesday, November 1st at 11:00 am

WHERE: 11905 Highway 83 – CDOT Maintenance Shed

Directions: From I25, take exit 153 to Interquest Parkway. Continue on Interquest Parkway for 2.2 miles, CDOT maintenance shed will be on the left.

OPPORTUNITIES: Close up look at CDOT Snow Plows, Tow Plow and tankers. Feel free to climb in the cab of the trucks and get demonstrations directly from those who operate them daily. Learn about the new brine treatment that will be used in the Monument are this winter, as well as what other treatments are being used. Most importantly, hear about driving tips for motorist and why it’s crucial to Bow to the Plow!
