CDOT conducting culvert replacement on CO 96 near Wetmore

April 22, 2022 - Southeastern Colorado

Custer County — Colorado Department of Transportation will be replacing a culvert on CO 96, east of Wetmore (Mile Point 31) on April 27. In order to expedite the replacement and have a safe work zone, CDOT will close CO 96 from MP 26 to 48 on April 27 beginning at 4 a.m. Local traffic will be able to access residential areas, however there will be a hard closure at MP 31. The closure will remain until April 28 at 4 a.m. Motorists should use COtrip.org to plan for alternate routes.

The following tips are to help you stay safe while traveling through maintenance and construction work zones.

  • Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
  • Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
  • Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
  • Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
  • Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
  • Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
  • Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
  • Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
  • Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
  • Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
