I-25 North Express Lanes Berthoud to Johnstown Project will have upcoming temporary closures and impacts

Northeastern Colorado — On April 6-18, the I-25 North Express Lanes Project will require multiple traffic impacts and temporary closures as the project completes important milestones. Construction is weather-dependent and subject to change.

Some previously scheduled work has been rescheduled due to weather and unforeseen construction impacts. The following work is rescheduled to these new dates:

  • On April 13, the traffic on northbound I-25, between Larimer County Road 16 and Colorado Highway 402, will be transitioned to a new lane alignment for increased motorist safety. Please follow posted signage in the area for detours.
  • On April 18, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., WCR 46 will be closed under I-25 to allow crews to erect new bridge girders.
  • Westbound WCR 46 traffic will take Colorado Boulevard south to WCR 44/CO 56.
  • Eastbound WCR 46 traffic will take CR 7 south to CO 56/WCR 44.
  • On April 18, at 7 a.m., to Friday, April 22, at 5 p.m., there will be a full closure of LCR 16 below I-25 to allow crews to demolish the old bridge.
  • Westbound LCR 16 traffic will take the east Frontage Road north to Colorado Highway 402.
  • Eastbound LCR 16 traffic will take the west Frontage Road south to LCR 14

Additional upcoming work includes the following:

  • On April 6, starting at 9 p.m., the southbound I-25 on-ramp from Colorado Highway 56 will be closed, and traffic will be detoured onto the northbound lanes overnight.
  • On April 7 at 5 a.m., the new on-ramp at the roundabout from CO 56 to southbound I-25 will reopened.On April 11, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Weld County Road 46 will be closed under I-25 to allow crews to pour concrete for new bridge abutments and wing walls.
  • Westbound WCR 46 traffic will take Colorado Boulevard south to Weld County Road 44/CO 56.
  • Eastbound WCR 46 traffic will take County Road 7 south to CO 56/Weld County Road 44.
  • On April 14, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., there will be a full closure of Larimer County Road 14 under I-25 to allow crews pour concrete for a new bridge deck.
  • Westbound LCR 14 traffic will take the eastern Frontage Road north to Larimer County Road 16.
  • Eastbound LCR 14 traffic will take the western Frontage Road north to LCR 16.

I-25 North Express Lanes 3 Detour Routes

The I-25 North Express Lanes Project: Berthoud to Johnstown section will increase highway capacity by adding an Express Lane in each direction, rebuild interchanges, replace aging bridges, straighten highway curves to improve safety, make major utility and drainage improvements, and add carpool and transit facilities. During construction on the I-25 North Express Lanes Project, motorists should expect speed reductions to 65 mph, minor lane shifts, temporary concrete barriers and median bridge work. Motorists should also expect delays during the scheduled work hours. Construction on the Berthoud to Johnstown segment is expected to be complete in early 2024.
