Work to start back up after winter shutdown on CO 172 and CR 318 Intersection

Travel Advisory

February 15, 2022 - Southwestern Colorado - Work will begin again March 28

La Plata County — The Colorado Department of Transportation, in cooperation with Oldcastle SW Group, will start back to work with improvements on an intersection just south of Ignacio on CO Highway 172. After a two-month winter shutdown, work is expected to resume on Monday, March 28. Workers will return to work on curb and gutter and median concrete, milling and paving, lighting and electrical installation, signing, striping, and erosion control. The project is expected to be complete in May.

The project, located at the intersection of CO 172 and CR 318, began September of last year with crews working on roadway widening and median construction.

“The project will greatly enhance the safety and functionality of this intersection,” said CDOT Southwest Regional Transportation Director Julie Constan. “A new left turn lane, for northbound drivers off of CO 172 turning onto CR 318 will decrease the likelihood of rear end collisions.”
