I-25 Expansion Project Temporarily Closing Portion of LaForet Trail

May 14, 2013 - Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - Access under I-25 to Santa Fe Trail to be rebuilt.

Colorado Springs – A small portion of the LaForet Trail under Interstate 25 is closing for several months beginning on Thursday, May 16, to accommodate @i25expansion Project construction.

The trail, located between Interquest Parkway and North Gate Boulevard, is widely used by employees and residents east of I-25 to access the Santa Fe Trail, west of the interstate.

While the trail is closed, the suggested three-mile detour route goes north from the LaForet Trail, via Voyager Parkway and North Gate Boulevard.  Users can then access the Santa Fe Trail from North Gate.

“We understand this trail closure inconveniences many outdoor enthusiasts, but once construction ends in the area this summer, runners, hikers and bicyclists will have an improved trail under I-25,” said Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) Project Manager Dan Hunt.  “The detour is a bit of a loop around the closure point and not as convenient as we would like but it’s short-term.  Please remember this project is all part of improving travel for motorized and non-motorized users in the Pikes Peak Region.”
