Vail Bike Path Will Open Today at 2 P.M.

May 23, 2013 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - Path opens on schedule despite spring snowfall.

EAGLE AND SUMMIT COUNTIES — The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will open the Vail bike path from east Vail, mile marker (MM) 180, to Copper Mountain, MM 195, today, Thursday, May 23 at 2 p.m. Despite late spring snowfall, crews have worked daily to clear the path so it could reopen by Memorial Day. CDOT urges cyclists to ride with caution as the path still has a few icy spots, and more ice may form if the area receives colder temperatures or inclement weather.

In addition to the work of CDOT maintenance crews, engineering crews are preparing for a project to begin in late May or early June that will resurface the path from Copper to the summit of Vail Pass and will repair a timber bridge to help improve safety for riders. Although crews may be visible, they are the only individuals authorized to be on the path at this time.
