I-70 Twin Tunnels Weekly Traffic Advisory

June 28, 2013 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Central Eastern Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - IDAHO SPRINGS – Traffic on the eastbound Interstate 70 frontage road around the Twin Tunnels continues to flow smoothly, although drivers should continue to anticipate slower traffic and a 35 mph speed limit while the detour remains in place through late 2013.

Next week, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will have the following lane closures taking place, east and/or west of the Twin Tunnels, for barrier work, and truck hauling operations:

  • Sunday, June 30
    • 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Monday – right lane closed eastbound
  • Monday, July 1
    • 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. – left lane closed eastbound
    • 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday – left land closed eastbound & westbound
  • Tuesday, July 2
    • 6 a.m. to11 a.m. – left lane closed eastbound
    • 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday – left land closed eastbound & westbound
  • Wednesday, July 3
    • 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. – left lane closed eastbound
  • Thursday, July 4 through Sunday, July 7
    • NO WORK OVER 4th of July weekend

Drivers should be prepared for longer than normal delays while the above lane closures are in place – depending on traffic volumes.  CDOT recommends that drivers plan extra driving time for their trips through this area, primarily during daylight hours.

In addition, blasting and/or rock scaling operations will require 20 to 30 minute traffic stops at various times throughout the week, not including peak travel periods such as during holiday travel periods, Saturday mornings or Sunday afternoons. The daily blasting schedule is posted daily on the project hotline, (303) 327-4034 or webpage –www.coloradodot.info/projects/i70twintunnels
