CDOT to Chip Seal SH 3 in Durango Next Week

September 6, 2013 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - Process preserves and prolongs highway surface.

DURANGO - Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) maintenance crews will provide a chip seal to entire length of SH 3 next week, from Santa Rita Drive south to the junction with US 160/550.

A chip seal is a preventative maintenance measure designed to extend the life of a highway that is in good/fair condition for five to 10 years, depending upon traffic volumes and climate.

“A chip seal is a good example of spending a little on highway maintenance now so we can avoid higher costs in the future,” CDOT Region 5 Transportation Director Kerrie Neet said.

TRAVEL IMPACTS: Next Monday through Thursday, weather permitting, motorists will encounter single-lane, alternating traffic on SH 3. All business access will be maintained, but may be altered temporarily.
