I-70 Twin Tunnels Weekly Traffic Advisory

November 15, 2013 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Central Eastern Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - IDAHO SPRINGS – Median barrier and grading work, sign installation, truck hauling, road grading, seeding and final striping operations are part of the planned activities for next week, east and west of the Twin Tunnels.

Lane closures are scheduled as follows, weather permitting:

  • Monday, November 18
    • 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. – one lane closed eastbound
  • Tuesday, November 19
    • 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. – one lane closed eastbound
  • Wednesday, November 20
    • 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. – one lane closed eastbound
  • Thursday, November 21
    • 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. – one lane closed eastbound
  • Friday, November 22
    • 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. – one lane closed eastbound
  • Saturday, November 23
    • 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. – one lane closed eastbound

Drivers should be prepared for longer than normal delays while the above lane closures are in place – depending on traffic volumes.  The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) recommends that drivers plan extra driving time for their trips through this area, primarily during daylight hours.

Adding a third lane to eastbound I-70 from east Idaho Springs to the bottom of Floyd Hill is part of CDOT’s strategy atreducing congestion along one of the state’s busiest corridors which, in turn, will improve gas mileage and air quality.
