C-470 Express Lanes Project

Frequent Nighttime Ramp Closures:

Due to the nature of construction work on the C-470 Express Lanes project, nighttime ramp closures are required intermittently throughout the next few weeks. Ramps affected by closures are Quebec, University, Broadway, Lucent and Santa Fe, both westbound and eastbound. These closures are required so crews can perform various tasks including: striping, barrier placement mobilization of equipment and other activities. Because these closures will be occurring frequently in coming weeks, we urge the public to watch for detour signs and use caution. Detours will lead motorists to the next exit where they can return to C-470 and continue on to their destination. Detours are typically 2.5 to 3 miles long. Crews will not close any two consecutive ramps at the same time.

Traffic Impacts

  • Detours are approximately 2.5 to 3 miles long.
  • Follow detour signs accordingly and go slow for the cone zone.
  • Construction is weather dependent and subject to change.
  • CDOT's Motorist Safety Patrol is available at no charge to travelers with disabled vehicles on C-470 from 6-9 a.m. and from 3:30-6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

More than 100,000 motorists use this segment of C-470 each day, with volumes projected to increase 40 percent by 2035. Construction is scheduled for completion in spring 2019.

Project Info

The $276 million C-470 Express Lanes project will increase mobility and user choice along 12.5 miles of C-470 between I-25 and Wadsworth Boulevard. Crews will build two additional westbound Express Lanes from I-25 to Colorado Boulevard and one additional Express Lane from Colorado Boulevard to Wadsworth. They also will build one additional eastbound Express Lane along the length of the project between I-25 and Wadsworth Boulevard.

The project also includes full reconstruction of existing pavement, the addition of auxiliary lanes at selected locations, on- and off-ramp improvements, realignment of substandard curves, widening of existing bridges, replacing the bridges over the South Platte River, the installation of tolling equipment, and new C-470 trail underpasses at Colorado and Quebec. When the project is complete, motorists may use the Express Lanes on C-470 for a faster, more reliable commute in exchange for paying a toll, or drive the general purpose lanes for free.
