Westbound Twin Tunnels Media Event

March 18, 2014 - Metro Denver Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - Staff to Give Overview of Upcoming Work and Traffic Impacts to I-70.

Colorado Department of Transportation officials and representatives from the Kraemer-Obyashi joint venture contracting team will brief the media on this year’s Westbound I-70 Twin Tunnels project and discuss the traffic impacts that will accompany the rock blasting activities. The $55 million project will widen the westbound tunnel and perform rock cuts on the west and east sides of the westbound tunnel bore, rock fall protection will also be upgraded in the immediate area. This project will save CDOT millions of dollars in the future by widening the second tunnel now as equipment and detours are easily accessible from the Eastbound Twin Tunnels project. This project will also create opportunities for CDOT to implement a westbound peak period project and work towards the final roadway configuration between the top of Floyd Hill and Idaho Springs.
