I-25 Expansion Project Kicks Into High Gear Soon

April 11, 2014 - Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - Work set to resume to widen final southbound segment.

Colorado Springs -- Commuters and residents using North Gate Boulevard will see increased work activity beginningWednesday, April 16, as crews install lights at the reconstructed interchange. The daytime work will require single-lane closures for several days between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Crews will make every effort to minimize traffic impacts in the morning and afternoon when traffic is entering and leaving the Air Force Academy.

Drivers also will see additional activity on Interstate 25 in the coming weeks as crews resume work to widen the last four miles of highway from State Highway 105 in Monument to North Gate Boulevard.

Crews are scheduled to set concrete barrier Sunday night, April 27 through Thursday, May 1 and again between Sunday, May 4, and Monday, May 5. The work will require a single-lane closure to create a safe work zone for crews. Daytime work in that area will include building access to the construction zone for equipment and workers.

Additionally, work is scheduled to begin Sunday, April 27, to replace expansion joints on the I-25 bridge over North Gate Boulevard. That work, which is expected to take up to six weeks, will require double-lane closures of northbound and southbound I-25 between 8:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. Expansion joint work will take place Sundays through Thursdays, weather permitting.

Drivers should be aware that paving work is scheduled to begin next month and continue through the summer. That work will be done at night to minimize traffic impacts, but drivers are reminded that there will be multiple lane closures and nighttime speed limits will be reduced to 45 mph.

All work is subject to weather and road conditions.
