US 6 Closed Overnight Saturday, April 12 to Set Girders for Knox Court Bridge

April 18, 2014 - Metro Denver Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - During the overnight hours of Saturday, April 12, crews will set girders for the new Knox Court bridge over US 6. To complete this work, a full closure of US 6 is needed between Federal Boulevard and Sheridan Boulevard from 9 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday.

At 7 a.m. Sunday, two westbound US 6 lanes will reopen while eastbound US 6 remains closed until 10 a.m. to complete the work. Regional through traffic should use I-70, US 285 and C-470 while local traffic can use Alameda or Colfax Avenues to detour around this closure.

“Setting girders on the Knox Court bridge is one of the final steps to take before crews can officially re-open this bridge,” says Kevin Sullivan, CDOT Project Director. “The bridge is scheduled to reopen in May and we couldn’t be more excited to check off this first project milestone.”

The Knox Court bridge will be the first completed bridge of this $98 million project, which is replacing six bridges in total. The project is also improving traffic movements in the I-25 and US 6 interchange and enhancing driver safety by eliminating several traffic weave movements along US 6 between Federal Boulevard and I-25.

All construction activities are weather-dependent and subject to change. For updated project information, visit http://www.coloradodot.info/projects/US6Bridges, call 720-881-5540 or email [email protected]

The US 6 Bridges Design-Build Project involves improvements along 6th Avenue from approximately Knox Court on the west through the BNSF railroad track bridge just east of I-25.  The project, which was part of the I-25 Valley Highway FEIS completed in 2006, includes building new bridges over Bryant Street, the South Platte River, BNSF railroad tracks, I-25, and over US 6 at Federal Boulevard and Knox Court, as well as improvements to Barnum Parks and a realigned off-ramp from northbound I-25 to westbound US 6. Substantial project completion is planned for fall 2015.
