US 36 closed for two nights for the Sheridan and bikeway bridge deck pours

May 14, 2014 - Metro Denver Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - Full US 36 closure on May 19 and 20

WESTMINSTER – As part of the US 36 Express Lanes Project, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will close eastbound and westbound US 36, 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., for two nights to pour the concrete for the bridge decks on the newly constructed Sheridan bridge and the bikeway/utility bridge. On Monday, May 19, the highway will be closed for approximately a quarter of a mile on each side of the Sheridan Boulevard bridge, and on Tuesday, May 20, it will be closed between Interlocken Loop and McCaslin Boulevard.

“There are detour routes in place to direct motorists around the construction work on both evenings,” said CDOT Project Director Mark Gosselin. “We are hoping to minimize the impact to the traveling public, while making sure that they remain safe.”

On May 19, traffic will be detoured at the US 36 off-ramps to Sheridan and routed immediately back onto eastbound and westbound US 36 via the on-ramps. On May 20, there will be a separate eastbound detour route and westbound detour route to direct traffic around and back onto the highway. Both detour maps are attached.

The US 36 Express Lanes Project is a multi-modal project that will build an express lane in each direction on US 36. The lanes will accommodate High Occupancy Vehicles (HOV), Bus Rapid Transit and tolled Single Occupancy Vehicles. In addition, the project will replace several bridges, build a commuter bikeway, add Bus Rapid Transit improvements, and install Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) for tolling, transit and traveler information, and incident management. Phase 1 is currently under construction from Federal Boulevard to 88th Street in Louisville/Superior and will open to the public in 2015. Phase 2 from 88th Street to Table Mesa Drive in Broomfield recently began construction and will open in 2016.
