CDOT Restriping Northbound I-25 at SH 66 Overnight June 29

June 16, 2014 - Northeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 4 - LONGMONT — The Colorado Department of Transportation will restripe the northbound lanes on I-25 at the SH66 Interchange starting on June 29 overnight between approximately 9 p.m. Sunday and 6 a.m. Monday.

During the restriping, traffic may be reduced to one lane, so moderate delays can be expected.

The restriping will change the configuration of the northbound lanes to improve safety while merging and reduce some of the bottleneck congestion which currently occurs as the three lanes are reduced to two.

Currently, the left lane ends in this area which forces drivers to merge to the right near the same point where traffic from the SH66 on-ramp are merging onto I-25.

The new configuration will maintain flow on the two left lanes and end the right lane before the SH66 on-ramp merges in. This work is being done to eliminate the awkward merge to the right, and eliminate the overlap with the SH66 ramp merge.  CDOT believes this will enhance safety, traffic flow and reduce congestion in the area.

Once completed, northbound drivers should expect to see the new striping configuration along with new signs and a temporary speed reduction until drivers are accustomed to the new traffic pattern. For about two weeks, signs will also be posted, reminding drivers of the change.
