June 30, 2014 - PROJECT UPDATE - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - MONTEZUMA COUNTY –Colorado Department of Transportation contractor Skanska Civil USA West Rocky Mountain District, Inc., is suspending paving work on SH 145 from Cortez to Dolores until late July.

The contractor has encountered additional work on a separate project near Pagosa Springs and will return to resume work on SH 145 on July 21.

Pre-paving activities have been completed near CR P, and the project will resume in July with additional milling of the roadway in the Cortez city limits, followed by paving of the entire stretch between mile point 0 (at US 160) and MP 9.4 (at the Dolores River Bridge).

Safe road conditions and existing work zones will be maintained during the suspension. Motorists are asked to please use caution while traveling through the area and maintain the (temporary) posted speed limit of 40 mph at CR P. Those with questions or concerns may call Skanska’s project information line at (970) 882-8842.

The project, contracted to Skanska for $5.7 million, will accomplish the following:   resurface the roadway, providing a leveling course to smooth the surface and correct rough roadway; patch and improve drainage in damaged areas; rehabilitate the bridge deck, including weather-proofing and new bridge rail; correct the curve at CR P; and install ADA ramps at sidewalks on SH 145 in Cortez.

TRAVEL IMPACTS:  Crews began work in late March and the project is scheduled for completion in late August. When paving resumes in July, there will be single-lane, alternating traffic, between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Motorists are encouraged to review CDOT’s lane closure reports online at http://www.coloradodot.info/travel/scheduled-lane-closures.html.
