20 Days of Major Work Continues on Arapahoe Road Reconstruction

July 28, 2014 - Metro Denver Colorado/Region 1 - Phase 2 Begins July 29

DENVER — In May of this year, The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) began work on the Arapahoe Road Resurfacing Project. This project includes the mill and overlay of Arapahoe Road from Boston/Clinton to Parker Road. The reconstruction of Jordan Road began with phase 1 on July 26 and is aggressively scheduled for twenty days of major impacts to be sure this project completes on time in October 2014.

During this twenty day period, the intersection will have 24-hour construction with periods where left runs and Jordan Road thru traffic will not be allowed. The benefits of this project far outweigh the short term impacts. These benefits include an improved driving surface, widening of Dayton Street, an addition westbound lane at Dayton Street, and the addition of a westbound to southbound left turn lane at Jordan Road.

On Saturday, July 26th, at midnight, Hamon Contractors will began the reconstruction of the intersection of Jordan Road and Arapahoe Road (SH 88). The intersection will be completed in three phases with the duration of each phase to range between five and seven calendar days. With phase 1 complete, weather permitting, phase 2 will begin on July 29. This phase will have the most restricted movement where no left turns on any leg of the intersection and no thru movements on northbound and southbound Jordan Road will be allowed. Eastbound and westbound Arapahoe Road will provide two through lanes and one shared through right. Pedestrian access will be limited or eliminated during this time.

The normal schedule for the aforementioned improvements would take approximately four months to construct, but CDOT will be implementing an accelerated 24-hour schedule with completion in approximately twenty days.  The intersection will be completed in three phases. The duration of each phase will range between five and seven calendar days.  Phase 1 will begin on Saturday, July 26th, 2014 at midnight and Phase 3 is expected to be completed on the evening of August 16th.  The working hours for this construction will be a 24 hour operation with Phase 2 having the most restricted movement with no left turns on any leg of the intersection and no thru movements on NB and SB Jordan Road.  Pedestrian access will be limited or eliminated during this time.
