24-Hour, Single-Lane Closures Expected This Week for Southbound US 550

July 8, 2014 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - DURANGO – CDOT, and contractor, Concrete Works of Colorado, are currently replacing damaged concrete pavement on the through lanes of US 550 just south of the main US 160/US 550 intersection.

A southbound, single-lane closure is necessary to complete the work and for the accelerated, replacement concrete to cure and gain strength; therefore, the single lane closure will be in effect 24 hours a day. The 24-hour lane closures will remain in effect through tomorrow evening, Wednesday, July 9 and then will again be necessary at other times next week as the concrete work continues. The accelerated concrete used for the project strengthens in 24 hours versus conventional concrete that typically takes 5 days, minimizing the overall time needed for lane closures. Once the replacement concrete work is completed, both southbound through lanes will be open during peak travel times.
