New Transportation Director Appointed for CDOT’s Region Two

July 30, 2014 - Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - PUEBLO – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has named Karen Rowe* as the new Regional Transportation Director (RTD) for Region Two, encompassing the fourteen counties of southeastern Colorado.

Rowe begins her new position on Aug. 1.  She has been with CDOT for nearly 16 years, replacing Tom Wrona, who retired at the end of June.

As RTD, Rowe will oversee all regional CDOT activities, including construction and maintenance.  “I’m looking forward to the challenges of my new position,” said Rowe.  “We have a great staff that’s focused on meeting the transportation needs of Region Two and Colorado.”

Rowe began her career as a project engineer in Durango, and then became a resident engineer in Glenwood Springs before coming to Pueblo as a resident engineer.  She has served as South Program Engineer – overseeing CDOT construction projects in nine counties – for the past three years.

“I am excited to help move the department in a new direction and provide more opportunities for Region Two,” added Rowe.

Rowe received her Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from California Polytechnic University – San Luis Obispo.  She became a Registered Professional Engineer in Colorado in 1997.

“Karen has extensive knowledge of the region’s unique needs and issues,” said CDOT Chief Operating Officer Scot Cuthbertson.  “She’ll continue to deliver the high quality customer service that Tom Wrona provided to the region.”
