Overnight closure of southbound I-25 at US 6 coming July 27

July 27, 2014 - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - DENVER – Overnight on Sunday, July 27, crews will remove various sign bridge structures on I-25 between US 6 and Alameda Avenue in preparation for the Colorado Department of Transportation’s (CDOT) I-25 Gap Lane Project.

This work requires an overnight closure of southbound I-25 between US 6 and Alameda Avenue between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

“We chose these hours on Sunday night because it is the timeframe during which traffic volumes are at their lowest points of the week,” says Kevin Sullivan, CDOT Project Director. “This allows us to minimize inconvenience and maintain the highest possible levels of safety for our crews and the traveling public.”

TRAVEL IMPACTS: From 10 p.m. to midnight, southbound I-25 traffic will divert west on US 6 to Federal Boulevard, then south on Federal to 5th Avenue to enter eastbound US 6 and reconnect with southbound I-25.

At midnight the eastbound 5th Avenue on-ramp to eastbound US 6 will need to close, so at that time southbound Federal drivers will continue to Alameda, then go east on Alameda to reconnect with southbound I-25. Northbound Federal Boulevard drivers will continue to Colfax Avenue to access I-25. Also at midnight, crews will close the eastbound and westbound US 6 on-ramps to southbound I-25.

The left two lanes on northbound I-25 will also be closed between Alameda Avenue and US 6 beginning at, 9 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5:30 a.m. Monday.

CDOT encourages motorists to drive safely, courteously and distraction-free at all times, especially through all construction zones and during the overnight hours.

PROJECT INFORMATION: The $98 million US 6 Bridges Design-Build Project will replace six obsolete bridges on US 6 between Knox Court and I-25, improve traffic movements in the I-25 and US 6 interchange and enhance driver safety by eliminating several traffic weave movements along US 6 between Federal Boulevard and I-25. Substantial project completion is planned for August 2015.
