US 160/US 550 CFI Project Update

July 25, 2014 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - Finalizing Details Keep Crews Busy Next Week as Project Nears Completion.

Durango, CO – With a push for a mid-August completion, CDOT and contractor, Concrete Works of Colorado, will spend next week finalizing details from road striping to signage to basic construction cleanup. With most of the larger items completed, crews are focusing on the particulars, which means that travelers will encounter work crews in and around the US 160/550 CFI intersection throughout the week.

Areas in the heavier work zones, such as west and south of the CFI intersection, will have similar impacts as last week with single-lane closures, turn-lane closures and lane sifts in every direction.

A change motorists will notice in the near future is on eastbound US 160. Currently, travelers headed into town from the west have just one dedicated left-turn lane and a shared lane for left turns (into downtown) and right turns (towards Bodo). The shared lane can often cause traffic back-ups during peak hours. With the CFI project, motorists will soon benefit from three eastbound lanes on US 160:  two dedicated left-turn lanes and one dedicated right-turn lane. The restriping on this stretch will happen in the next week or two.

Travel impacts for the week of Monday, July 28 through Friday, August 1:

  • No Weekend Work Anticipated July 26 & 27

  • US 160 and US 550: Median and single-lane closures and two lane shifts likely throughout the week, all directions. Single-lane closures are anticipated during non-peak travel times from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and after 6:30 PM.

  • Side Streets (from CFI intersection to 9th Street): Minimal and intermittent impacts as crews finalize striping and signage.

  • US 160, Tech Center to the CFI Intersection: Expect lane, median and turn-lane closures: westbound, single-lane closures are possible anytime; eastbound, single-lane closures are anticipated during non-peak travel times from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and after 6:30 PM.

  • Roosa Avenue: Expect northbound lane closures during day and evening hours – there will be no left turns from eastbound US 160 onto Roosa Ave.
