CDOT Region 5 Maintenance Activity Update: August 11-15

August 7, 2014 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - SOUTHWEST/SOUTH-CENTRAL COLORADO – The following are this upcoming week’s maintenance activities that impact travel within CDOT Region 5’s two maintenance sections.

(Numerous additional projects will be underway, but may only impact shoulders and/or cause only brief impacts in a mobile work zone). Motorists are advised to slow down and drive with extra caution whenever work vehicles or flashing lights are seen. Thank you for driving “Slow for the Cone Zone!”

Area:  Dolores North

Location:  SH 145, Mile Point (MP) 28-40, between Dolores and Rico

Duration:  8/12 through 8/13, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Description:  Pot hole patching, minimal traveler impact, drive with caution


Area:  Cortez North

Location:  US 491, 11 miles north of Cortez, MP 33-36

Duration:  8/12 through 8/13, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Description:  Mowing, some lane closures and traffic slowing; please drive with care while passing.


Area:  Ouray North

Location:  US 550, MP 142.5 – 143, downtown Pagosa Springs

Duration:  8/11 through 8/14, 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Description:  Mowing, some lane closures and traffic slowing possible, drive with caution.


Area:  Poncha Pass

Location:  US 285, MP 124-125

Duration:  8/11 through 8/14, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.


Ditch cleaning behind barrier, debris hauling (this work will be intermittent and ongoing into fall, as time permits; follow-up to recent mudslides)


Area:  North of Poncha Springs

Location:  US 285, MP 138.5-140, at Chaffee County Road 270

Duration:  8/1 through 8/30, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Description:  Safety improvements and resurfacing (partnership with county) continue with some lane closures and a speed limit reduction from 60 mph to 40 mph; drive with caution.


*CDOT’s Region 5 includes the counties of Montezuma, Dolores, San Miguel, southern Montrose, Ouray, San Juan, La Plata, Archuleta, Mineral, Chaffee, Saguache, Rio Grande, Conejos, Alamosa and Costilla. There are two Maintenance Sections (headquartered in Durango and Alamosa), six Maintenance Areas (with offices in Durango, Ridgway, Cortez, Alamosa, Monte Vista and Salida) and numerous Maintenance Patrols within those Areas. Each Maintenance Section also has a “Special Crews” division for Section-wide support work, including avalanche control, facilities maintenance, culvert work and more.
