I-70 Bridge Work to Continue near New Castle

August 21, 2014 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - GARFIELD COUNTY — The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will be continuing a bridge joint replacement project near New Castle at mile marker 104, over Elk Creek.

Milling operations, in which the top layer of asphalt is removed, will comprise the first step on the bridge. Following repairs to the bridge joints, the surface will be waterproofed and then repaved.  Paving is scheduled to begin next Monday, August 25-Tuesday, August 26.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS: Traffic will be reduced to one lane with work taking place in the right hand lane both eastbound and westbound. The speed limit also will be reduced throughout the project.  Traffic control is scheduled to be removed on Thursday, August 28 before the Labor Day holiday weekend.

ABCO Contracting Company, Inc. of Denver, Colorado, is the contractor for this project.  The contract included eight bridges from Mesa County to Garfield County.
