Pro Challenge Impacts I-70 Today

August 23, 2014 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - VAIL — Stage 6 of the USA Pro Challenge is a 10 mile, individual time trial up Vail Pass, requiring a westbound lane closure of Interstate 70 on Vail Pass today.

Lane and road closures and required traffic stops will be taking place between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

  • STATE: Right lane of westbound I-70 closed from upper runaway truck ramp on west side of Vail Pass into Vail.  Off-ramps from eastbound and westbound I-70 to East Vail (Exit 180). I-70 South Frontage Road (old U.S. 6).

PLEASE NOTE: Oversized and overweight vehicles traveling westbound I-70 will be held at the scenic overlook (mile 196), just prior to the Copper Mountain/Leadville Interchange - Exit 195, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.  ALSO, bicyclists will be prohibited from RIDING the portion of the Vail Pass Bike Path (old U.S. 6) in use for the time trial.

To help motorists navigate the various state and local roadways for the next three days, the Colorado Department of Transportation’s (CDOT) websitewww.cotrip.org will have information regarding highway closures, delays, oversize and overweight restrictions, suggested alternative routes, and answers to frequently asked questions. Links to the host city websites also are provided, offering information regarding local road closures and long-term parking availability.  Delay and closure times are estimates only and subject to change depending on the pace of the race, weather, and other unanticipated conditions.
