CDOT Region 5 Maintenance Activity Update: September 22-26

September 19, 2014 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - SOUTHWEST/SOUTH-CENTRAL COLORADO – The following are this upcoming week’s maintenance activities that impact travel within CDOT Region 5’s two maintenance sections.

(Numerous additional projects will be underway, but may only impact shoulders and/or cause only brief impacts in a mobile work zone). Motorists are advised to slow down and drive with extra caution whenever work vehicles or flashing lights are seen. Thank you for driving “Slow for the Cone Zone!”

AREA:  REGIONWIDE ROADSIDE WORK - This week, there are numerous project areas regionwide that involve roadside mowing, ditch clearing and shoulder work. Much of this work will require little to no travel impacts, though motorists are reminded to slow down and abide by the Move Over law – giving space to vehicles with flashing lights when safe to do so. (Look for mowing on SH 145 Dolores north; SH 184 between Dolores and Mancos; SH 84 in Archuleta County; US 160 in Durango.)

Area:  South of Durango

Location:  US 550, Mile Point (MP) 6-9 (halfway between NM state line and Durango)

Duration:  9/22 through 9/25, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Description:  Highway shoulder work; speed limit reduced to 40 mph, expect single-lane, alternating traffic, and some travel delays.

 

Area:  Cascade to Ouray (Coal Bank, Molas and Red Mountain Passes)

Location:  US 550, Mile Point (MP) 60 – 95

Duration:  9/15 through 10/3, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Description:  Shoulder work using 3 graders, 2 loaders, several tandem plows and 1 broom truck; expect single-lane, alternating traffic and 15-minute delays.

 

Area:  North of Ouray

Location:  US 550, Mile Point (MP) 99-100

Duration:  9/22 through 9/25, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Description:  Clearing run-off debris from shoulders and ditches; very minor travel impacts, if any; watch for equipment entering and exiting roadway.

 

Area:  East of Salida

Location:  US 50, Mile Point (MP) 224-228

Duration:  9/22 through 10/30, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Description:  Ditch cleaning; speed limit reduced to 40 mph, travel delay.

*CDOT’s Region 5 includes the counties of Montezuma, Dolores, San Miguel, southern Montrose, Ouray, San Juan, La Plata, Archuleta, Mineral, Chaffee, Saguache, Rio Grande, Conejos, Alamosa and Costilla. There are two Maintenance Sections (headquartered in Durango and Alamosa), six Maintenance Areas (with offices in Durango, Ridgway, Cortez, Alamosa, Monte Vista and Salida) and numerous Maintenance Patrols within those Areas. Each Maintenance Section also has a “Special Crews” division for Section-wide support work, including avalanche control, facilities maintenance, culvert work and more.
