Closures on Southbound I-225 in Aurora Beginning Sept. 19

September 19, 2014 - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - AURORA—As part of the I-225 widening project, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will implement the following two closures on southbound I-225 in Aurora starting Friday, Sept. 19.

The ramp from southbound I-225 to Parker Road will close from 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19 until 5:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 22 for construction of safety improvement. Motorists can expect periods of inactivity due to required cure times for paving materials. The following detours will be provided for traffic to access Parker Road from SB I-225 while the ramp from southbound I-225 to Parker Road is closed:

  • Detour via Iliff Avenue: Motorists can go west on Iliff Avenue from I-225, then south on Peoria Street to Parker Road.
  • Detour via S. Yosemite St.: For those who miss the Iliff Avenue Detour, motorists can continue south on I-225 and exit at S. Yosemite St. for access back to northbound I-225 and Parker Road.

To complete the erection of overhead sign bridges over southbound I-225, there will be a full closure of southbound I-225 between Iliff Avenue and Parker Road from 11 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19 until 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20. The following detour will be provided for traffic while southbound I-225 is closed between Iliff Avenue and Parker Road:

  • Detour via Iliff Avenue: Motorists on SB I-225 will exit onto Iliff Avenue and travel west to Peoria Street and then south to Parker Road where access to southbound I-225 is available.

Delays are possible in the area and alternate routes are strongly advised. CDOT reminds motorists to obey all construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”

This $60 million project will ultimately widen I-225 between Mississippi Avenue and Parker Road to accommodate three lanes in each direction with an additional auxiliary lane. It also replaced the Yale Avenue bridge of I-225 and constructed a new Light Rail flyover at Parker Road. Other minor roadway elements will be completed to accommodate RTD’s extension of light rail from Parker Road to Iliff Avenue. SEMA Construction Co. is the contractor of this project, scheduled to be complete by early fall 2014.
