US 6 (Dotsero) Bridge Railing Repair Work

October 31, 2014 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - Starts Next Week

EAGLE COUNTY--Beginning the week of November 3, 2014, the Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor partner, ABCO Contracting Company Inc., will start a bridge rehabilitation project on US 6 (I-70 Frontage Road) over the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) in Dotsero. The relatively short work zone is located between the westbound and eastbound I-70 ramps near mile post 133.8. Limited work will be performed this season to repair damaged bridge railing.

IMPACTS: On US 6, construction activity will occur between 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Limited night or weekend work may be necessary. This stage of the project requires one lane alternating traffic through the work zone. Weather permitting, the repair work will take approximately one week. Minor delays are expected. CDOT would like to remind motorists to Slow for the Cone Zone. Fines will be doubled within the work zone.

The Dotsero exit provides commercial vehicle parking during an incident or severe weather event. This project will have little to no impact on parking supply and vehicle operations.

Crews will return to the Dotsero site in spring 2015 to perform waterproofing, deck patching and substructure work. This approximately $1 million project also includes similar bridge rehabilitation work on State Highway 131 over the Yampa River in Phippsburg. The entire project is anticipated to be complete in the summer of 2015 after a winter shut down.
