31-hour closure of US 6 postponed due to weather

November 11, 2014 - Denver Metro/CDOT Region 1 - Westbound US 6 off-ramp to Federal Boulevard will remain closed one more week.

DENVER – Due to the frigid temperatures this week, the Colorado Department of Transportation’s (CDOT) US 6 Bridges Design Build Project has postponed the 31-hour closure of US 6 at Federal Boulevard for bridge demolition work. This closure was originally scheduled for this weekend.

In order to close US 6, crews need to use the westbound US 6 off-ramp to Federal Boulevard as a detour route. This ramp is currently closed while crews pave areas around the ramp and shift it into its new, permanent location. The cold temperatures this week have made it impossible to complete these paving operations in the originally anticipated time frame; therefore, the ramp will remain closed for an extra week and is now scheduled to reopen the evening of Saturday, Nov. 22.

The 31-hour full closure of US 6 for demolition of the remainder of the bridge is now slated to take place in December on a weekend that will not conflict with the Parade of Lights 2014 or a Denver Broncos home game.

More details will follow in the coming weeks. As always, all construction schedules are tentative and subject to change based on weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

PROJECT INFORMATION: The $98 million US 6 Bridges Design-Build Project will replace six obsolete bridges on US 6 between Knox Court and I-25, improve traffic movements in the I-25 and US 6 interchange and enhance driver safety by eliminating several traffic weave movements along US 6 between Federal Boulevard and I-25. Substantial project completion is planned for August 2015.
