Work wrapping up soon on I-70 Bridge Improvements Project near Eagle Vail

November 6, 2014 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - EAGLE COUNTY — Work is nearing completion on the I-70 bridge improvements project located near Eagle Vail for this construction season.

This project includes the construction of a traffic crossover located in the median at approximately mile marker 168. This crossover has been built in anticipation of work scheduled to begin spring 2015, when traffic will be diverted to enable bridge repair. Once median work is completed this month, traffic will be returned to its normal configuration for the winter season.

This Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) project consists of repairing and rehabilitating both the eastbound and westbound bridge structures located at approximately mile marker 168.7, at the point where I-70 crosses over both the Eagle River and Highway 6. More specifically, work includes girder repair, bridge deck repair and re-paving and reinforcing current structures.

TRAVEL AND RECREATIONAL IMPACTS:  Construction is scheduled to restart in April 2015. At that time, the temporary crossovers will be utilized to enable bridgework.  During construction, work hours are scheduled from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 7:00 a.m. to noon on Friday. Night and some off-season work is expected. Speeds will be reduced in the area and vehicles over 11 feet will be restricted. Boat ramp access to the Eagle River at the construction site will be temporarily inaccessible after the construction start date and bicyclists and pedestrians may expect intermittent delays on the bike path directly underneath the work zone for equipment access.

Structures, Inc. of Englewood, Colorado is the contractor for the $8.1 million project.  It is scheduled for completion before July 2016.
