State Highway 23 closed June 3 - 5

Colorado Department of Transportation work will have major traffic impacts.

PHILLIPS COUNTY—Starting June 3, CDOT will close SH 23 between County Road 40 and County Road 61. This full closure of the highway will allow for installation of a new railroad crossing.

The highway will remain closed until approximately 6:30 a.m. on June 5.

CDOT anticipates major traffic impacts during this portion of the project.

Detours

  • Eastbound travelers: Detour at County Road 40 and continue onto CR 61 north back to SH 23.
  • Westbound travelers: Detour at County Road 61 and continue onto CR 40 south back to SH 23.

A width restriction of 11 feet is in place for vehicles, trucks and equipment to allow for construction equipment and paving operations. Driveway access to businesses and residents will be maintained at all times during the construction.

Expected delays

Travelers can expect 10- to 15-minute delays during the roadway construction. Motorists should plan for these delays when traveling through the construction zone. Speed limits throughout the construction zone will remain at 35 miles per hour.

While there have been some minor impacts to the schedule due to adverse weather, the project is expected to be completed by late June to early July.
