US 550 Closed North of Durango on May 28 for Bike Race

Morning rolling closures scheduled in town

LA PLATA COUNTY—
The Colorado Department of Transportation will close a portion of US 550 north of Durango on Saturday, May 28, during the annual Iron Horse Bicycle Classic. The public is urged to leave Durango early if traveling north on US 550 to Silverton or points north of Silverton.

Updated road conditions are available at www.cotrip.org or by calling 511 from anywhere in the state. Up-to-date information is also available via Twitter (@coloradodot), and be sure to like our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/coloradodot.

Starting at 7:15 a.m.:
Southbound US 550 traffic will be diverted onto CR 203 at Hermosa Creek to Animas View Drive, just north of town. Northbound traffic from town all the way to Purgatory Ski Resort will proceed along US 550 with traffic control in place.

Starting at 7:30 a.m.:
Rolling closures in the northbound lanes of US 550/Camino Del Rio through Durango (from downtown north to Animas View Drive) will be in place to accommodate the three biking events' starting times.

From 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.:
US 550 will be fully closed in both directions between Purgatory Ski Resort and Silverton. (The highway will remain open north of Silverton, as always.)

ALTERNATE ROUTES:

Motorists may choose to use east Animas Road (CR 250) if going north. They may use Santa Rita Drive to avoid rolling closures downtown in the morning.
