Conejos River Bridge on CO 17 to undergo Improvements

August 17, 2016 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - CONEJOS COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) announces that crews will be working to improve the Conejos River bridge on Colorado Highway (CO) 17.

The bridge structure is located about 25 miles west of Antonito at mile point 16.74 on CO 17. Tezak Heavy Equipment, Co., Inc. will begin construction Monday, Aug. 22 and will continue working through September.

The purpose of the project is to improve the integrity of the bridge through installation of new foundations and supports and forming new river embankments. The improvements will help to reduce the transport and erosion of soils from around the bridge foundation which leave supports exposed.

Guardrail approaches will also be added on both sides of the road leading to the bridge.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS: There will be no travel delays while crews work on the bridge structure itself. However, motorists can expect some intermittent lane closures during guardrail installation. The public is advised to watch for signage, flaggers, and heavy equipment.

FISHING ACCESS: Fishing will only be allowed upstream of the bridge. During construction, access from the South will be closed to the public. Access from the North will remain open to the bridge. (See attached pdf map.)
