Five-day closure of B ½ Road over US 50 near Orchard Mesa planned next week

August 5, 2016 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - MESA COUNTY/GRAND JUNCTION - Starting Monday, August 8, at 5 a.m. through Friday August 13, at 7 p.m., a closure of the B ½ Road Bridge over US Highway 50 (US 50) in Grand Junction, will be in place.

Westbound motorists on B ½ Road will follow a signed detour onto 27 ½ Road, to the northern frontage road, to 27 ¾ Road where they will be able to turn onto US 50 at the signal. Motorists travelling south on US 50 will exit at 27 ¾ Road and follow a signed detour down the northern frontage road, to 27 ½ Road, to eastbound B ½ Road.

Additional single lane closures are also planned on US 50. The two lanes of the highway will be reduced to one lane in each direction at various points along US 50 between 27 ½ Road and the 5th St. Bridge. There will also be shoulder closures on the 5th St. Bridge. Motorists are asked to reduce their travel speeds to 35 mph through the construction zone.

The closures allow construction crews to safely install guardrail and bridge rail on the bridge that connects B ½ Road to southbound US 50.

"The goal of this project is to make the road safer and smoother for motorists and securing the safety of this bridge is an integral part of that,” says CDOT Engineer, Victor Pennington. "We’ve worked closely with the contractor to determine the safest approach to this closure."

The closure of the B ½ Road Bridge will be in place until the evening of Friday August 13. The single lane closures on US 50 and the 5th St. Bridge repairs are expected to continue through summer 2016.
