TRAFFIC ALERT: Culvert to be replaced on US 160

August 16, 2016 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - Improvement Project takes place just west of Pagosa Springs

ARCHULETA COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) announces that American West Construction will be executing a Region 5 CDOT project to replace an existing culvert under US Highway 160 (US 160).  Work on the project starts this week and will continue through the beginning of November.

The project location is west of Pagosa Springs on US 160 at mile post 136.61 in Archuleta County. The project will include two distinct phases.  Phase 1 will include removal and replacement of 1/2 of the existing culvert on the north side of the roadway, while detouring traffic around the work area utilizing the existing roadway on the south side.  Phase 2 will include removal and replacement of the other 1/2 of the existing culvert on the south side of the roadway, while detouring traffic around the work area utilizing a temporary paved shoofly on the north side of the roadway.

TRAVEL AND ACCESS IMPACTS: Concrete barriers will be set to segregate the work zone from traffic.  Reduced speed (45 MPH) two lane traffic will remain in effect on a 24/7 basis throughout the project, which may also include some Saturday work.  There will be limited single lane closures with flaggers during the setup of the barriers, paving, and striping and when the barriers are switched over between phases. The public is urged to use caution and stay alert while traveling through the construction zone.
