Overview
There are two annual national Safe Routes to School events. Celebrations organized by individual schools or communities are great opportunities to encourage walking, bicycling and rolling, get kids practicing their skills, and for parents and caregivers to experience how safe and fun it is for their children to walk and bike to and from school.
The next Walk and Roll to School Day is scheduled for Wednesday, October 7, 2026. Check back in the fall for downloadable Walk and Roll to School Day 2026 posters!
The next Bike and Roll to School Day is scheduled for Wednesday, May 5, 2027. For the most recent Bike and Roll to School Day held on May 6, 2026, CDOT provided free stickers and downloadable posters to support celebrations across the state.
Are you new to these events or need to spark event planning ideas? Check out the Bike and Roll Day toolkit to help you develop your event.
For additional ideas, check out the Bike Train resource from the Safe Routes Partnership and the Bike Bus Guide and Walking School Bus Guide from the National Center for Safe Routes to School.
Be sure to register your event at walkbiketoschool.org regardless of when you hold your festivities.
