I-70 Reopened near Empire Junction

April 13, 2012 - I-70 Update - Central Eastern Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - CLEAR CREEK COUNTY – Westbound Interstate 70 is open again in the Dumont area.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) closed westbound Interstate 70 earlier this afternoon to remove the overhead electronic variable message sign just east of Empire Junction (U.S. 40).

All westbound traffic was detoured around the work zone via the frontage road.

CDOT had to remove the sign today because a stress crack had developed in the base of the supporting structure.  With a weekend forecast of wet weather and windy conditions, traveler safety required the closure so the entire structure could be removed without delay.
