US 34 Reduced to One Lane in Each Direction This Weekend East of I-25

April 11, 2012 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Northeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 4 - All traffic will be diverted to the westbound lanes, no truck traffic will be permitted between I-25 and Greeley.

LARIMER/WELD COUNTIES — Beginning Saturday, April 14 at 7 a.m. and lasting until Sunday, April 15 at 7 p.m., the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will close eastbound US 34 between Larimer Parkway at mile marker (MM) 97 and County Road (CR) 3 at MM 98 east of I-25. In partnership with Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR), CDOT will have to close both eastbound lanes for 36 hours this weekend and both westbound lanes next weekend in order for railroad crossing replacements in both directions of US 34.

All US 34 traffic will be diverted to the westbound lanes this weekend, where one lane of traffic will travel eastbound and one lane will travel westbound in a head-to-head configuration similar to a two-lane highway. Significant delays should be expected and alternative routes are strongly advised for all motorists.

No trucks will be allowed east of I-25 on US 34 to Greeley over the weekend. Rather than using Exit 257/US 34 from I-25, truckers will either need to use the next exit to the north (Exit 259) at Crossroads Boulevard, or the next exit to the south (Exit 255) at State Highway 402.

The following detours will be in place for truckers this weekend:

  • Eastbound truckers: From US 34 and I-25, take Thompson Parkway south to Ronald Regan Boulevard, take Ronald Regan Boulevard east to County Road 3, take County Road 3 north to the US 34 frontage road. Suggested alternative routes: use Exit 255/State Highway 402 or Exit 259/Crossroads Boulevard.
  • Westbound truckers: Take County Road 17 north to Crossroads Boulevard or south to State Highway 402. Suggested alternative routes: use Exit 255/State Highway 402 or Exit 259/Crossroads Boulevard.

In order for the repairs to be completed, the westbound lanes of US 34 will be closed next weekend from 7 a.m. Saturday, April 21 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 22, and all traffic will be diverted to the eastbound lanes, where again traffic will be a single lane in each direction.

Delays should be expected for all traffic traveling on US 34 in the area this weekend. CDOT would like to remind motorists to obey all road signs and flaggers, and to drive Slow for the Cone Zone.
