Vail Bike Path Opening Friday Morning

May 3, 2012 - TRAVEL ADVISORY - Central Eastern Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - Thanks to a mild winter, crews opened path sooner than expected.

EAGLE COUNTY — Tomorrow, Friday, May 4 at 8 a.m., the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will open the Vail bike path in Eagle and Summit counties to the public. While closed during the winter months due to snowpack and avalanche risks in the area, the path has been cleared by CDOT crews and is ready summer.

Later this spring and summer, the path will undergo repairs and improvements in two different areas, which may necessitate last-minute closures. On the east side of Vail Pass there will be repairs on two bridges that were damaged this past winter, and the west side of the pass will be resurfaced from mile marker (MM) 182 to MM 191, where minor drainage improvements will also be made. The resurfacing project is not yet under contract and more details will be forthcoming regarding both the bridge repairs and the resurfacing project as they become available.
