Overnight Closures of I-70 Near Tunnel This Week

June 4, 2012 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Central Eastern Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - SUMMIT/CLEAR CREEK COUNTIES – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will close eastbound Interstate 70 from Silverthorne to the Loveland Pass exit – just east of the Eisenhower/Johnson Memorial Tunnel (EJMT) – for three nights this week for electronic sign installation.

Beginning at midnight on Tuesday, June 5, Wednesday, June 6, and Thursday, June 7, eastbound I-70 traffic will detour to U.S. 6 at Silverthorne/Dillon – Exit 205.  Traffic will take U.S. 6 over Loveland Pass, returning to I-70 at the Loveland Pass interchange.  Eastbound I-70 reopens to traffic at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

The closure allows CDOT to install a sign bridge and new Dynamic Message Sign across all lanes of the highway, allowing road, weather and other information to be posted for drivers heading eastbound out of the EJMT.

Dynamic Message Signs provide numerous safety benefits for drivers, including enhanced readability during dry and adverse weather conditions, and full color capability for construction, speed limit and other types of highway messages.
