Powers Boulevard Closure Sunday & Thursday Night

June 1, 2012 - Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - COLORADO SPRINGS – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is closing Powers Boulevard for a couple nights next week to install girders over the roadway.

Beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 2, northbound and southbound Powers (State Highway 21) will be closed at Briargate Parkway.  The marked detour routes are:

  • Northbound Powers Boulevard traffic wanting to access westbound Briargate should exit at Research Parkway, go west to Union Boulevard, north onto Union Boulevard, then proceed to Briargate Parkway
  • Southbound Powers Boulevard traffic wanted to access eastbound Briargate Parkway should exit at Union, go east on Union to Continental Heights, the south to Briargate

No restrictions will be in place for northbound Powers to eastbound Briargate.

Powers reopens to traffic at 7 a.m. Monday, June 3.

Powers will be closed again at Briargate on Thursday, June 6, during the same hours, reopening on Friday morning.

Girder installation is part of bridge construction project that is converting Powers from an expressway to a four-lane freeway between Research Parkway and Old Ranch Road.  The project is scheduled for completion in August 2012.
