State Highway 82 Glenwood Springs Access Plan

June 6, 2012 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - Public input collected, stakeholder meetings encouraged.

GARFIELD COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), the City of Glenwood Springs and Garfield County held a public open house on May 23rd for the Access Plan being developed for approximately five miles of SH 82, from the junction of I-70 south to the Orrison Distribution access (north of Old State Highway 82). This open house presented a draft plan and the public was invited to provide comments, which will be used in developing the final plan.

An access plan is a long-range planning document that provides a unified vision for future access needs for the SH 82 corridor. It defines existing and future access locations and configurations with consideration for spacing, traffic movements, circulation, and alternative access opportunities.  Access plans benefit communities by improving traffic operations, providing safety benefits, and providing guidance to land owners, the local government and CDOT as properties redevelop.

Public input is currently being collected to aid in developing the final plan. The project team is scheduling individual meetings in July with stakeholders in order to discuss specifics of the plan and how it might impact individual properties. Space is limited, so anyone interested in scheduling a meeting can contact the project team for an appointment.

The Draft State Highway 82 Access Plan can also be reviewed on the City’s website at:  http://cogs.us/transpo/ACP/default.htm. Comment sheets and informational boards explaining the plan’s goals, objectives, maps and project schedule are also available on the website.  Residents are encouraged to review the information and contact the project team with any questions, comments, or concerns.
