Bridge Work to Cause Delays on I-225 Near Yale Avenue Next Week

July 27, 2012 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 6 - AURORA—On Sunday, July 29th, crews will conduct work on the new Yale Avenue bridge over I-225 from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. on Monday.

The work will require one lane of northbound and/or southbound I-225 to be closed from approximately Parker Road to Mississippi Avenue.  In addition, there will be intermittent stops up to 10 minutes as crews move equipment into place.  Uniformed traffic control will be on site to direct motorists through the work zone.

In addition to the lane closures and intermittent traffic stops on Sunday, motorists can expect various single lane closures on northbound and southbound I-225 Monday, July 30th through Wednesday, August 1st from 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the following day.

Major delays are expected each night, especially on Sunday night, and alternate routes are strongly advised. To avoid the construction zone, motorists on southbound I-225 can exit onto Iliff Avenue and travel west to Peoria Street and then south to Parker Road where access to southbound I-225 is available. Motorists on northbound I-225 can exit onto Parker Road and travel west/north to Peoria Street and then north to Iliff Avenue where access to northbound I-225 is available.

CDOT would like to remind motorists to obey all construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.” Fines for most infractions that occur in the work zone will be doubled.

The work is part of a project that widens I-225 between Mississippi Avenue and Parker Road to accommodate three lanes in each direction with an additional auxiliary lane.  In addition, the Yale Avenue bridge over I-225 will be replaced and other minor roadway elements will be completed to accommodate RTD’s extension of light rail from Parker Road to Iliff Avenue.

SEMA Construction Co. is the contractor of this $43 million project scheduled to be complete by the end of July 2014. The project is being funded by CDOT and RTD.
